A lot of people automatically assume these days that instagram is purely about adding a filter to make your photos look aged… They think that by adding these filters to your photos, You’ve altered the way the image looked to your eye at the time it was taken. I disagree, I often try to tell people who don’t use instagram that sure there are filters aimed at giving the photo an aged look, but often with careful application of a filter and the newer ‘lux’ feature you can actually create a far more striking an closer representation to the dynamic nature our eyes able to see things… Not really too sure where I’m going with this, but I think I’m just trying to say that for me, as much as I love using other apps to edit with, sometimes a simple instgram only edit is all that’s needed, and it doesn’t have to alter the image significantly… Here I just used #hefe and #lux and was lucky the nature was providing some awesome light and the iPhone camera was able to capture a decent picture.. Once, twice… Three times I filtered 🎢🎡 haven’t done a #igonlyedit in a while.. First I used Amaro then Hefe, then finally my good friend #xproii was used.. #lux was used in there somewhere.. Another pic from @redbull ‘s #empireofdirt visit last week… Looking forward to seeing the finished course this weekend! πŸ˜ƒ (Taken with Instagram at Alexandra Palace)

Another one from yesterday’s mooch around the @redbull #empireofdirt and this little bad boy is certainly going to allow for some insane stunts! Edited in #PhotoToaster and finished with #lux and #brannan (Taken with instagram)

“band of brothers” IGers @ash and @ammullan stand on one the last jumps on the @redbull #empireofdirt course at #alexandrapalace in #london Thought it would be rather fitting to do this in the style of #blackbran. So Native Camera > 60% Ansel in Camera+ , Clarity > #brannan , #lux > DONE (all said in the style of Gordon Ramsey btw) (Taken with Instagram at Alexandra Palace)

Read an interesting article last night about instagram, written by a fellow IGer who has been here from the start and has become somewhat disillusioned with it all… Has instagram ruined mobile phoneography he asks? (I’ll add a link later if you’re interested) Sure not everything about instagram is perfect, but in this digital age we live in, what is? People say that using IG only editing is lazy, or less creative.. But I beg to differ.. This shot may have only seconds in instagram to edit using #lux , #xproii and a bit of tilt shift… I like to think that what makes this picture better than some of the images you see on instagram getting 500+ likes is that it is a moment in life that could easily be overlooked and forgotten without a seconds thought…….. Hmmm think I’ve one off on one now without really knowing what my point was…. It’s wet again today, that was the point I was trying to make πŸ˜‰ #rantingoninstagramwithoutreallythinkingitthrough #london #streetography #streetlevel #perspective (Taken with Instagram at Brixton Underground Station)

This was supposed to be a cool long exposure shot instead it’s almost come out like some arty watercolour painting?! Either way i quite like it… Most filters looked good.. And I’m now slightly too drunk remember which one I used (I could flick back to check, but I can’t be bothered) well har a good Friday night people.. I’m getting drunk with my best friends! (blink 182 style!) haha #slowshutter #london #igerslondon #londonpop #lux #earlybird #earlybirding ( ok I went back and checked!) (Taken with Instagram at London Waterloo Railway Station (WAT))

It’s funny how sometimes a certain filter can ruin a picture, and other times it completely transforms it.. I’ve gone back to using the native camera for quick fire shots recently… And all I’m using for most is just IG.. This was a toss up between inkwell and #brannan added in done tiltshift blur to keep the focus on the #cobbles and used #lux to just spruce things up a bit… I was tempted to try a double edit with inkwell first then brannan to create blackbran which has been rather absent of late… Well this is my final image of the day… Going to reply to some comments tomorrow.. I always put it off for some reason.. Bad habit I guess.. I might also try and make conversation with someone in the street.. Not sure what I’ll say after “hello” … Look for a common interest I guess..?! Right well good night IG.. Ohh are any of you lovely people android users.. I’m intrigued to see what shots the htcs and samsungs etc are producing… (Taken with Instagram at Convent Garden)
